Halifax & Moozie Cottage : Our two week vacation began with an overnight stay at the Delta Barrington in Halifax after flying out from Glasgow on the 5th August.
The warm and sunny morning of Sunday 6th was spent exploring the waterfront and habourside. We then checked out of the hotel and headed north to rendezvous with the O'Neill family at Moozie Cottage not far from the small settlement of Linden.

The cottage was large and spacious with glorious views out across the shore to the sea. The children immediately clicked together and went off to explore the beach with the Mums whilst the Dads enjoyed beer and cigars on the sunny deck. A wonderful end to our first whole day in Nova Scotia.

1st day at the cottage : Day 2 started early for Clive as Thomas excitedly rushed upstairs from his bed in the den to let his Dad know about the beautiful sunrise. Dad dutifully proceeded to set up tripod and camera to capture what was indeed a very special view.

The main level of the cottage comprised the kitchen, dining room and lounge and this was open all the way to the roof level with a staircase and balcony area on the upper level. Two of these photos were taken looking down from the balcony.

Michelle quickly had Thomas and Conor shucking cobs of corn for supper and the day was concluded with a small camp fire down on the beach and conversation turning towards what fun tomorrow would bring.

Bay of Fundy : The Watkins family took off by themselves today to explore the Bay of Fundy. Stops were made in Oxford (the blueberry capital of the world), Parrsboro (site of the Fundy Geological Museum) and Spencer's Island (the home port of the Mary Celeste). The approaching storm made for some dramatic skies and ominous seascapes.

Lobster supper & sunset beach : Clive and Patrick went out in search of lobsters (and a couple of beers) today, while Rosie was thoroughly pampered by Michelle and the boys played on the beach by the cottage.

On returning from Chase's Lobster Pound with 6 live lobsters the children were enchanted and amazed at the bizzare creatures that the adults were about to cook and eat for supper! Amazingly none of them were at all squeamish about the fate of these odd looking critters.

Following our delicious meal and once Michelle's excitement over the feast had abated, we walked out onto the beach in search of sea treasures while Patrick prepared a beach camp fire. Rosie and Mathew busied themselves collecting sea snails (all named Gary after the snail in Sponge Bob Square Pants) and the other boys played in the shallow sea until they we too cold and had to return to the warmth of Patrick's now blazing camp fire. Toasted marshmallows and a few small fireworks bought to a close another memorable day.

PEI & Twin Shores : Having said a fond farewell to Moozie cottage we made the journey across the Confederation Bridge to Canada's smallest province, Prince Edward Island. After looking around the museum and having a good lunch we headed on up to the Twin Shores camp ground not far from Malpaque on the north side of the Island. With tents erected and the children all very excited we prepared for our first of three nights under canvas.

Camping & Twin Shores Beach : Our first full day at Twin Shores started with a fabulous breakfast cooked by Patrick on his Expedition 3X stove(you can't do that on a barbeque!). The rest of the day was spent once again relaxing on the beach. The water, although cooler than in Nova Scotia, was still good for swimming. After some supper the children (and adults!) were treated to Cow's Icecream at the nearby Cavendish Boardwalk. Back at camp we all had smores around the campfire before retiring to our tents.

Twin Shores, Rustico & Brackley Beach : I got up early today to get some early light photos and at the same time Alison, Thomas & Rosie headed down to the peaceful and beautiful beach. On return to the campsite we had a quick breakfast and packed everything up. The O'Neills headed back to Amherst to spend some time with Michelle's family. The Watkins family took off to explore more of PEI. We travelled along the coast to have lunch at Rustico and then on to the busy but lovely Brackley Beach. Then it was a long but interesting drive back to Michelle's parents' house in Amherst.

Amherst & Cottage : A relaxing morning spent exploring the lovely old town of Amherst and then on to Michelle's family cottage for supper. The shallow water of the beach by the cottage were the warmest yet and the kids frolicked and played before having to be dragged away to get something to eat!

Lobster Tour : For our final morning in Nova Scotia we decided to go on a two hour lobster boat tour. It was once again a beautiful day and Rosie and Thomas were both excited to actually be out ON the sea. The tour was very well done and each lobster cage that was hauled on board offered up several lobsters ranging in size from tiny to massive beast which was 15 years old!
